Many benefits come with breastfeeding, but it's not going to determine what happens to your child's cognitive development in the long-term.

I've shared many stories over the last few months about my life as a parent, but I didn't cover the journey of my pregnancy. This article is dedicated to those 41 weeks.

Breastfeeding a child gives him/her a healthy start in life, thus a foundation is laid in the child’s life for a future that will be both prosperous and healthy. Not only does a child benefit from breastfeeding, but the mother also benefits.

A good latch allows your baby to empty your breasts properly, and can prevent nipple pain and breast tenderness for mothers. Even though most babies learn to latch naturally, many need some assistance in the beginning!

While it isn't their bodies and time involved in the direct action itself, I find it vital to include my partner in the conversation. We both agree it's a woman's choice at the end of the day, but if moms need more societal support for breastfeeding, we do have to involve more than just women in the conversation.

I was quite distracted by the newness of becoming a mom and the luxury of not working, but eventually I started to feel like I wasn't doing anything with my life and I wanted to contribute something monetary.

 

Breastfeeding your infant can protect you from several diseases that may occur after your childbearing years. Women who choose to breastfeed also have a lower risk of developing certain cancers compared to moms who opt-out. Perhaps the most immediate benefit of all is it helps you regain your body shape.

Looking at the options of breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, or a combination, requires some objective thinking, but after all the cards have been placed on the table, it remains a personal choice for each individual mother and the family's lifestyle.

You can hold your baby in many positions as there are no set rules on how to breastfeed your baby. The most important thing is that you are both in a comfortable position.
