The KeaBabies Baby Wrap Carrier is the perfect tool to help you bond with and nurture your new little one! Babywearing has amazing health benefits, both for mama and baby! From helping with breastfeeding in allowing you to do household tasks, babywearing can aid in many aspects of parenthood! Here are some of the most common questions about the KeaBabies Baby Wrap Carrier.

Baby wrap age and weight limits

No single age limit covers every baby wrap. Each carrier's range is set by the company that makes it, so the instructions that came with your wrap have the final word.

For the KeaBabies Baby Wrap Carrier, our product listing says it holds babies up to 35 lbs, with a recommended age of up to 3 years. Stop using the wrap once your child goes past either limit. Stop sooner if you can no longer tie it snugly enough to hold them high and close to your body.

Your baby's health counts too. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises extra care, including a talk with your pediatrician, for babies under 4 months, babies born early or at a low birth weight, and babies with a cold or breathing problems.

1. When can I start wearing my baby in a wrap carrier?

Check the starting age and weight in the instructions that came with your wrap, and wait until your baby is within that range. If your baby was premature or has a health condition that could affect babywearing, ask your pediatrician first. For young babies, use the Newborn Hug Hold and run through the TICKS checks every time. Our guide to when you can start babywearing your newborn covers readiness for you and your baby.

2. Can you use the wrap carrier with older babies and toddlers?

The KeaBabies Baby Wrap Carrier is great for children ages 0-36 months of age, so you can absolutely still wear your older baby or toddler! You may need to find different positions to wear your baby as he grows bigger. The KeaBabies Baby Wrap Carrier can even be used as a ring sling – which is a great way to carry heavier babies and toddlers! Some mamas prefer a hip carry or outward-facing carry as baby gets older. Save outward-facing carries for babies 6 months and up who have strong head and body control. Babywearing has many benefits, even for toddlers, and can help you stay hands-free!

3. How do I know if my wrap is in the correct position?

There are a few safety checks you’ll want to keep in mind when babywearing. First, the baby should be snug – wrapped tightly in the carrier, with no loose or gaping fabric. Baby should be in view at all times. Your baby’s back should be properly supported by the wrap (try to pull up the part of the fabric with the KeaBabies logo up over your baby’s back toward her shoulders). Your little one’s chin should be off of her chest, so her airways are not restricted. Leave at least a finger's width of space under her chin. Lastly, the baby should always be close enough to kiss – not too far down your body where you can’t easily reach the top of her head.

4. I can’t quite master how to use the wrap carrier. Where can I find help?

Start with our step-by-step guide to using a baby wrap, which walks you through the basic tie. For the Newborn Hug Hold and the front-facing carry, see our guide to putting on a KeaBabies wrap for each hold. Once you know the tie, our quick KeaBabies wrap instructions make a handy refresher, and our babywearing do's and don'ts list covers the safety checks.

You can also watch tutorials on the KeaBabies YouTube channel, look for a local babywearing group, or ask a friend who babywears to practice with you. Our Facebook community, "KeaBabies Love: Motherhood, Babywearing, Breastfeeding Support Group," is a good place to ask questions or share pictures. Practice the tie a few times without your baby first, and don't give up if it takes a while to feel comfortable.

5. How many colors is the wrap carrier available in?

The KeaBabies Baby Wrap Carrier comes in a wide range of solid colors and prints. See the product page for the colors available right now.

6. Is the fabric heavy or lightweight?

The wrap carrier is made of premium quality breathable cotton spandex that keeps you and your baby comfortable. The fabric is stretchy and breathable enough to be comfortable to wear during warm summer days. On warm days, dress your baby lightly and check often that they aren't getting too hot.

7. Can plus-size mamas still use the wrap?

Yes, the KeaBabies Baby Wrap Carrier is a one-size-fits-all, so it is adjustable to whatever size you are! There is plenty of fabric to make the wrap carrier comfortable even for larger mamas! Everyone should be given the opportunity to wear their baby, no matter their size!
