3 Simple Ways To Wear Your Baby 👶🏻

Baby wearing is a wonderful way to nurture the bond between parent and baby. Babies love to snuggle, and baby wearing makes it easy! If you have a wrap carrier, such as the KeaBabies Baby Wrap Carrier, you may have mastered the hug hold – but did you know there are a few other ways you can wear your baby?

Check out these three other ways you can wear your baby in a wrap carrier!

  1. The KeaBaby Explorer (Forward-facing, for babies 5 months +)

  • This position is for babies with full head and neck control, which usually occurs between 5-6 months of age.
  • This is a great position for babies who want to experience the world as you do, facing outward.
  • Directions:
  1. Tie the KeaBabies Baby Wrap around your body.
  2. Hold your baby facing away from you, and insert one of baby’s legs under the piece of fabric closest to your body.
  3. Keeping a firm grip on your baby, shift his weight to the other side, and slide his other leg under the piece of fabric furthest from your body.
  4. Spread the fabric open toward your baby’s knees, so that his legs are in an “M” position (knees at or above his bottom).
  5. Pull the piece of fabric with the KeaBabies logo up and over your baby’s legs for added support. Pull this layer up toward your baby’s armpits to fully support his body in the front-carry position.

  1. The KeaBaby Newborn Snuggle (Newborn hug hold, for babies 0 to 3 months)

  • This position is great for babies even just a few weeks old.
  • It provides their body with enough support to make them feel snug and secure.
  • It aids baby in coping with the outside world while remaining close to mom.
  • Directions:
  1. Tie the KeaBabies Baby Wrap around your body, making sure to fold a few feet of fabric in half so your baby has a space to tuck into.
  2. Hold your baby facing you, against your chest, and slide his body into the fold that is closest to your body.
  3. Shift baby slightly, and wrap him in the fabric pocket that is furthest from your body. Baby’s legs should be bent at the knee so that he sits in a “frog” or “M” position.
  4. Lastly, pull up on the fabric with the KeaBabies logo, pulling it up over baby’s bottom, all the way to the back of his neck. Make sure baby’s back and neck are supported.

  1. The KeaBaby Hip Hugger (Hip Hold, for babies 6 months +)
  • This position is for babies who can sit up unassisted.
  • Baby must have strong head and upper body control.
  • The hip carry position is great for bigger babies (or even toddlers!) who can sit in the natural curve of your waist.
  • For safety purposes, always keep one hand on your baby for added support and security in the hip carry position.
  • Directions:
  1. Tie the KeaBabies Baby Wrap around your body.
  2. Shift the “X” pieces of fabric from the middle of your chest, to your side.
  3. Place one of baby’s legs through the piece of the “X” closest to your body, pulling the fabric over baby’s bottom and shoulder. Baby should be straddling your hip.
  4. Take the outer piece of the “X” and spread the fabric over baby’s bottom and back, pulling apart to spread baby’s knees.
  5. Find the piece of fabric with the KeaBabies logo. Place both of baby’s legs through this section. Pull the fabric up toward your baby’s back, all the way to his shoulders.
  6. Check to see that baby is comfortably straddling your hip.

When wearing your baby, always take these safety precautions:

  • Baby’s legs should form an “M,” with the knees at or above the bottom.
  • Baby’s face should be visible, and his head close enough to kiss.
  • Baby’s face should not be pressed against the adult, and baby’s chin should not be pressed against his chest.
  • Baby’s back and shoulders should always be supported by the wrap.
  • Never attempt a hold position that is unsafe for your baby’s age and level of development.
  • Avoid outward-facing carries for long periods of time, as this can easily over stimulate a baby.
